Main cast
Andy Whitfield as Spartacus – a Thracian. He had volunteered to fight for the Romans, but later rebelled. As punishment he was condemned to death in the arena, but defeated the gladiators sent in to kill him. His life spared, he becomes a gladiator in the ludus of Lentulus Batiatus.[3] Producer Rob Tapert said that crew wanted an unknown actor to portray the role; while Whitfield has appeared in Australian television and film, Spartacus marked his United States debut.[4]
Erin Cummings as Sura – the wife of Spartacus. She is enslaved after her husband rebels against the Romans and is killed later.[5]
John Hannah as Quintus Lentulus Batiatus – a lanista. Purchases Spartacus to train him along with his other gladiators at his ludus.[6]
Lucy Lawless as Lucretia – Batiatus' wife. The two are trying to renew their financial prosperity.[7]
Peter Mensah as Doctore – Batiatus' trainer of gladiators. He wields a bullwhip.[8]
Manu Bennett as Crixus, "the Champion of Capua" – a Gaul, and Batiatus' top gladiator. He is having a relationship with Lucretia.[9]

Jai Courtney as Varro – a Roman citizen who sold himself to the ludus to support his family.[12]
Nick Tarabay as Ashur – a former gladiator forced to stop fighting due to injury. He remains at the ludus to work for Batiatus as a bookmaker in addition to aiding other gladiators.[13]
Lesley-Ann Brandt as Naevia – is Lucretia's personal and loyal slave but also secretly in love with Crixus .[14]
Craig Parker as Gaius Claudius Glaber – a Roman army legatus, who leads the Thracian volunteers during the mutiny by Spartacus.[15]

BRAIN DAMAGING HABITS

1. No Breakfast
People who do not take breakfast are going to have a lower blood sugar level. This leads to an insufficient supply of nutrients to the brain causing brain degeneration.

2 . Overeating
It causes hardening of the brain arteries, leading to a decrease in mental power.

3. Smoking
It causes multiple brain shrinkage and may lead to Alzheimer disease.

4. High Sugar consumption
Too much sugar will interrupt the absorption of proteins and nutrients causing malnutrition and may interfere with brain development.

5. Air Pollution
The brain is the largest oxygen consumer in our body. Inhaling polluted air decreases the supply of oxygen to the brain, bringing about a decrease in brain efficiency.

6 . Sleep Deprivation
Sleep allows our brain to rest.. Long term deprivation from sleep will accelerate the death of brain cells..

7. Head covered while sleeping
Sleeping with the head covered increases the concentration of carbon dioxide and decrease concentration of oxygen that may lead to brain damaging effects.

8. Working your brain during illness
Working hard or studying with sickness may lead to a decrease in effectiveness of the brain as well as damage the brain.

9. Lacking in stimulating thoughts
Thinking is the best way to train our brain, lacking in brain stimulation thoughts may cause brain shrinkage.

10. Talking Rarely
Intellectual conversations will promote the efficiency of the brain

The main causes of liver damage ar
e:

1. Sleeping too late and waking up too late are main cause.

2. Not urinating in the morning.

3 . Too much eating.

4. Skipping breakfast.

5. Consuming too much medication.

6. Consuming too much preservatives, additives, food coloring, and artificial sweetener.

7. Consuming unhealthy cooking oil.
As much as possible reduce cooking oil use when frying, which includes even the best cooking oils like olive oil. Do not consume fried foods when you are tired, except if the body is very fit.

8. Consuming raw (overly done) foods also add to the burden of liver.
Veggies should be eaten raw or cooked 3-5 parts. Fried veggies should be finished in one sitting, do not store.
9. Too much drinking alcohols.

We should prevent this without necessarily spending more. We just have to adopt a good daily lifestyle and eating habits. Maintaining good eating habits and time condition are very important for our bodies to absorb and get rid of unnecessary chemicals according to 'schedule.'

The top five cancer-causing foods are:

1.. Hot Dogs

Because they are high in nitrates, the Cancer Prevention Coalition advises that children eat no more than 12 hot dogs a month. If you can't live without hot dogs, buy those made without sodium nitrate.

2. Processed meats and Bacon

Also high in the same sodium nitrates found in hot dogs, bacon, and other processed meats raise the risk of heart disease. The saturated fat in bacon also contributes to cancer.

3. Doughnuts

Doughnuts are cancer-causing double trouble. First, they are made with white flour, sugar, and hydrogenated oils, then fried at high temperatures. Doughnuts, says Adams , may be the worst food you can possibly eat to raise your risk of cancer.

4. French fries

Like doughnuts, French fries are made with hydrogenated oils and then fried at high temperatures. They also contain cancer- causing acryl amides which occur during the frying process. They should be called cancer fries, not French fries, said Adams .

5. Chips, crackers, and cookies

All are usually made with white flour and sugar. Even the ones whose labels claim to be free of trans-fats generally contain small amounts of trans-fats.

Show of Force flattens field in Davao triathlon
(The Philippine Star) Updated March 15, 2010 12:00 AM

MANILA, Philippines - Three months after winning his first local title, Australian Rohan Force returned to the same venue to reign again.

The 41-year old Force, a businessman engaging in distributions of nutritional supplements, leaned on his all-around performance to claim line honors in the second leg of the Speedo National Age Group Triathlon Championship raced at the Baywalk Park, Queensland Compound in Davao City.

Mary Pauline Fornea, 16, shared stellar billing with Force, turning in the best time among female triathletes who competed in the race backed by Barangay Matina Emergency Unit, Davao Volunteers Fire Brigade and Davao City Traffic Management Center.

Force, who is also an active triathlete back home, was never challenged as he was in the lead in this 1k swim, 30k bike and 7k run event organized by Triathlon Association of Davao headed by Dr. Oscar Escudero and supported by Speedo.

He made splits of 13:30 in the swim, 49:28 in the bike and finished the race in 32:09 in the run for an accumulated time of one hour, 35 minutes, 7 seconds to claim top honors in the 40-44 male age group.

This was Force’s second win in the same venue after dominating the sixth Mayor’s Cup last November.

Fornea, a scholar of DOST in UP Mindanao, proved she deserved to be in the TRAP national pool as she topped the under-19 category with a 2:09:21 clocking with splits of 15:19, 1:07:22 and 46:40. Fornea, meanwhile, will attend the Subic Training Camp next month before competing in the Asian Juniors and U-23 Championships on May 1 and 2, also in Subic.

Other age group winners in the event supported by the Philippine Sports Commission, Globe Telecom, Sunkist, Vitwater, Rudy Project, Asian Centre for Insulation Philippines and David’s Salon were April John Maniyog (under 19), Jefferson Tabacon (20-24), Glenn Villocino (26-29), Jemarvin Cabilan (30-34), Christopher Eyao (35-39), Rolando Alisan (45-49), Juanito Dionio (50-54), Romeo Lactaoen (55-59) and Edgardo Villar (60-above) in the male.

Cherryl Araneta (20-24), Ivy Joy Herrero (30-34) and Cossette Plaza (35-39) joined Fornea as champions in the female age group.

ToF 2010 Volunteer Registration

When was the last time you saw fireflies?

The fireflies have fled the city because they could not stand its dirty air. All of us — cyclists, pedestrians, commuters, even those who ride cars — who live, work and raise families in the city may suffer the same fate. We continue to dirty our city’s air with polluting vehicles and factories. As a result, we also risk disappearing like the fireflies.

Why resign ourselves to this fate? We have a choice. We can fight for clean air and bring back the fireflies.

What is the Tour of the Fireflies?

The Tour of the Fireflies is a 35-kilometer bicycle ride around Metro Manila at an easy, controlled pace that allows everyone, even the occasional bike rider, older children and senior people to participate and have fun. It is a costume parade of cyclists leisurely pedaling at an average of 15 kilometers per hour through 6 or 7 Metropolitan cities. The Tour promotes cycling as a sustainable means of transportation.

About the Ride

This year, it will happen on April 18, 2010 (Sunday), touring the cities of Quezon City, Marikina, Cainta (Rizal), Pasig, Taguig, Makati and Mandaluyong.

• Distance and Duration: The 35-kilometer ride will take about 4 to 5 hours to complete.
• Pace: The pace will be a relaxed 12-15kph. It will be controlled so that the group bikes en masse and even occasional riders, young children, and senior citizens can enjoy the ride.
• Requirements: All participants must sign the waiver and quit claim in this registration form, wear helmets, and bring water to drink. A registered adult participant must accompany children below 13 years of age.

Win Awards and Prizes

Wear nature- or clean air-inspired costumes and you may win the Best Costume award. Prizes will also be given away for the Biggest Contingent, Oldest and Youngest Rider.

Only registered participants are eligible to win. Those vying for the costume awards must check in early before the Ride to get a number. All registered participants must bring their registration forms on April 18 to claim their prizes during the short program and raffle after the Ride.

See you on April 18, 2010 (Sunday) Tour of the Fireflies: I VOTE TO BIKE!

Venue: Tiendesitas, Ortigas Ave., cor. E. Rodriguez Jr. Ave (C-5)
