Former Vice President Teofisto Guingona heralded the protest march of Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV and Brigadier Gen. Danilo Lim as the signal for another People Power revolt.

Flanked by Catholic bishops and opposition personalities, Guingona called upon Filipinos to support the call for President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo's ouster.

"Ito ang bagong EDSA, ito ang bagong People Power (This is the new EDSA, this is the new People Power)," Guingona said at a press conference at the Manila Peninsula Hotel in Makati City.

He added that, "Let us all unite, let us not be afraid."

Also at the press conference were Novaliches Bishop Antonio Tobias, Infanta Bishop Emeritus Julio Labayen, Fr Robert Reyes and Francisco Nemenzo, former University of the Philippines (UP) president.

Trillanes and Lim, who led a march from a Makati courtroom to the hotel, were not at the briefing. They will reportedly hold another press conference within the day.

About 50 other supporters, some clad in military uniforms, joined their march. Several men were armed and carried the Magdalo insignia.

Lim and Trillanes called for civilian support in Makati City, even as Trillanes told President Arroyo and military chief Gen. Hermogenes Esperon Jr to prepare for the consequences.

"Ito ang oportunidad para magbago, ito ang huli. Samahan ninyo kami sa Makati, Ipakita natin sa buong mundo na tayo ay may dangal (This is our opportunity to change. This is our last chance. Join us in Makati City. Let's show the world we still have honor)," Lim said in an interview on dzBB radio.

Reporters covering the trial quoted Lim as saying he told his custodial guards that they are not their enemies, and that "it's time for change."

When asked if he is ready to face the consequences of his act, Trillanes said, "Ang tanungin nyo kung handa si Arroyo at Esperon sa consequences kung bumagsak sila (You should ask Arroyo and Esperon if they are ready for the consequences if they fall from power)."

Lim said they are enjoining people to seek Arroyo's resignation because "the president continues to violate the constitution with impunity repeatedly."

He added that Mrs Arroyo "continues to plunder the treasury" and violate the rule of law and the Constitution. - GMANews.TV
